Do I need to get an MOT?
Do Steed models need an MOT test?
Only if your vehicle is registered with a number plate. Unregistered vehicles do not require an MOT.
For registered scooters and trikes, an MOT is required once the vehicle is 3 years old from the date of first registration. After the first MOT, your vehicle must pass an MOT annually to remain road legal.
To obtain an MOT, the rider must take the vehicle to a DVSA-approved motorcycle MOT test centre in the UK.
The rider can either:
- Visit a local garage that offers motorcycle MOT testing
-
Use the MOT test centre finder on gov.uk to find a local MOT provider
With electric scooters and trikes, it's worth calling ahead to check if the garage can test your vehicle, as not all centers are familiar with electric models.
What does the MOT check on scooters and trikes?
- Brakes and brake performance
- Lights, indicators, and horn
- Tyres, wheels, and suspension
- Steering and frame condition
- Mirrors and number plate
